6 fun things to do in Hampton Roads

With the coast on the right and land on the left, there are plenty of fun things to do in Hampton Roads. From exploring with toddlers at the Children’s Museum to thrilling rides at Busch Gardens, you and your visitors are sure to have a blast year-round. Click each activity for a deeper look into the fun things to do in Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Williamsburg.

Children’s Museum of Virginia

When we need a family friendly activity, we usually go to. The Children’s Museum of Virginia. Imagine two stories of fun and being able to touch and play with everything. This is the most fun museum my children and I have ever been to.

Norfolk Botanical Garden

Located next to Norfolk International Airport, Norfolk Botanical Garden is the best place to spend a beautiful and relaxing day. Pack your own picnic or purchase lunch at the Garden and enjoy exploring 12 miles of paved trails.

Zoo in Norfolk

Meet over 400 animals and enjoy 53 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds. Zoo Grooves concerts and breakfast with the animals are just a couple of things you can do at the Zoo in Norfolk. Send your child to Zoo camp or plan their birthday party – there are a lot of options and we love visiting every chance we get.

Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center

Imagine exploring an Olympic-size swimming pool full of fish. This is essentially what the Aquarium is like. With over 800,000 gallons of water throughout the center, check out our hundreds of hands-on exhibits, outdoor aviary, nature trail, and marshlands. Plus you won’t want to miss the 3D IMAX® Theater.

Ocean Breeze Waterpark

It’s no secret that it gets hot and humid in the summer in Hampton Roads. Ocean Breeze Waterpark is the perfect place to relax on the lazy river or get wet and wild on a hot day.

Busch Gardens

Grab your free military tickets to Busch Gardens in Virginia and head back in time to the Old Europe-themed amusement park. Enjoy rides, roller coasters, KIDsiderate attractions, shows and tours. Busch Gardens in Virginia has also packed the entire year full of excitement with a spectacular line up of special events.

We recommend annual memberships.

Don’t forget to present your Military ID for discounts

About Cameron

A few years ago, I had a hard time finding information about where to live so I created a website called MilitaryTownAdvisor.com. It is a place for military families to leave reviews for their neighborhoods, areas of town, and schools. Also, the blog (blog.militarytownadvisor.com) is a place to find things to do in new towns.

  1. Cameron,
I found your website on Pinterest and want to let you know we are listed as one of the fun things to do in Virginia Beach. We would love to be mentioned in any blog or information you want to give your military families. You can find more information on our website and we would love to speak with you about want we provide for the Hampton Roads area.
    Thanks, Randy Gore
